Shuey-Brownewell House

 

The Shuey - Brownewell House, was built in 1921, at 508 Terry Street in Longmont, Colorado by Mary S. and John Lawson.

 

The home is located in the original plan of the Chicago-Colorado Colony.  In 1871, Jarius Lincoln, a colony executive and later, a member of the school board owned the lot.

The home was sold to Berniece A. and Ralph R. Shuey in 1950.  Ralph Shuey became a well-known realtor, director of the Chamber of Commerce, and president of the St. Vrain Valley School Board.  He served on the school board for ten years and was president from 1960 to1965.  Newspaper articles written about him include:

The home was sold to Nell and Francis D. Brownewell in 1972.  The home was remodeled to house the F. D. Brownewell Insurance Company.  Edward Pratt, grandfather of Ken Pratt, established the insurance company, in 1912.  Brownewell had been a partner of the Pratt’s in the insurance department, and in September 1969 purchased the business from the Pratt estate.  Francis D. Brownewell was a director of the Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Longmont City Council.  Newspaper articles written about him include:

The home features unique architecture characteristics including decorative braces and unique circular windows.
